How many total entrepreneurs and healthy vending operators has the company helped start a business?
How many people has the company you’re considering helped get started in a vending business? Companies with 1,500+ operators are considered mature. Our team has helped more than 6,000 operators get started in vending – over 900 of which are healthy vending operators. We have helped more healthy vending operators get started than all of our competitors combined – which is not surprising since we sold our first healthy vending machines in 2007 – years before most of our competitors even started their businesses. We are now celebrating our 17th year in business.
How long does the company warranty their machine for?
The average vending machine warranty is one year. We back our machine with a lifetime warranty. Other companies brag that they have a high quality machine – but ask them what their warranty is. We also provide lifetime fire, theft and vandalism coverage. No other company comes close to giving you the same level of protection.
What, if any, engineering certification does the machine have?
Vending machines operated in the U.S. must be constructed to meet the guidelines of the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) or other certifying organization. The certification of the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) is the most widely accepted standard in the vending industry. Our machine is NAMA certified in all 50 states and Canada. Our equipment meets the governing “standard for sanitary design and construction” and incorporates the requirements of the FDA Model Food Code. NAMA inspectors use a 79-point checklist when visiting a manufacturing facility to certify vending equipment. Download the NAMA Checklist to see the rigorous testing and scrutiny the HealthyYOU machine has withstood.
Several of our competitor’s machines are not NAMA certified. They may be legally used in the 15 states without a strong health code, but they cannot be used in most states – most likely yours. The fines for operating a non-certified machine vary from state to state but many states do levy a fine starting the day the machines were placed in a location and not just the day they were discovered by an inspector. Be sure to ask for a NAMA certification letter from any company you are considering. We’ll gladly provide ours.

Does the company follow both federal and state laws - therefore protecting your business?
Vending companies that include locations in their packages (like our company and our competitors) provide a one page FTC disclosure document.
In addition, a handful of states have additional disclosure and registration rules that companies must comply with. As of June 1st, 2016 our company is the only company we are aware of operating legally in the following states: CA, FL, GA, IL, KY, LA, MI, NE, SC, NC, TX, UT, VA and WA. If another company has offered to sell a business opportunity to you they must provide a second and more in-depth state disclosure with a title page written such as “Disclosures Required by California Law” (name of the state in the title). The most common reasons for not providing this longer disclosure are that it specifies whether an owner has a criminal record (one of our competitors) or if the owners have filed bankruptcy (another of our competitors).
Some of these states also issue registration letters to the vending company that’s selling the opportunity. Ilene, our Compliance Officer, sends out to our prospective operators a copy of these registration letters if one is available, in addition to the required FTC & state disclosures. Be certain that any company you are considering is properly registered with your state – otherwise you are jeopardizing your investment with unnecessary risks.
Does the company offer SmartCard technology?
All public schools (and other government facilities) now require a lunchtime lockout feature with vending machines that are on the premises. Additionally, many corporations want flexibility with custom pricing options over the weekends and/or late evenings for employees working overtime. If you can meet this demand, they are often willing to subsidize those vends – a best case scenario for you as the machine owner.
Does the machine you’re considering provide for these and other wide-ranging options that are implemented via a SmartCard – or will you have to pass up those good locations?
With HealthyYOU Vending’s SmartWarePro™ you can optimize your business by preparing custom machine settings at home and then downloading them directly into your machines. Change product pricing, offer discounted vends for specific hours or weekends, control the refrigeration system, lighting, internal clock, calorie information, custom display messages, trouble shooting, and much more. Custom settings can be saved for each individual machine and then delivered to that machine via your SmartCard. We don’t know of another healthy vending company utilizing this technology.
Does the company offer an Entrée/Side Dish Vendor option?
Increase your earning capacity with microwavable entrées & side dishes offering hungry employees a variety of delicious and nutritious ready-to-eat meals. Studies have shown that more and more Americans are eating at their desks or working late and would like the option of healthier snacks or meals at their workplace. Often these workplace decisions are made at the last minute, so it’s not possible to bring in a healthy lunch or dinner. Although you likely won’t need this option in every location, you definitely want the option available. Vending healthy entrées and side dishes can add a whole new dimension and revenue stream to your vending business.
Does the company have a true coaching staff – made up of seasoned professionals that are paid a salary to do nothing but help you succeed? How long does the company offer their support program?
If you are starting a business that you have no experience in, you need a mentor. Your coach knows what will make you successful and what the pitfalls in the business are. They can guide you through the startup process and beyond – there is no need for you to make the rookie mistakes. We have a dedicated coaching department. Our support program is structured for the long run. We don’t have a cram session at the beginning of your business and then leave you without continual support. Your needs and your questions will change over the life of your business. We support our Operators through every stage of their business, not just at the beginning.
Make sure any company you are considering has a salaried, non-sales coaching department. Your sales person at a vending company cannot provide support after the sale. They may say they will - and they may really try to - but it just doesn’t work. They’re focused on the next sale – their livelihood depends on it.
We maintain a seasoned, salaried team of dedicated coaches who do nothing other than help our Operators, sun-up to sun-down, with everything necessary to succeed and maximize their success. There’s nothing that our team of seasoned coaches hasn’t heard or seen.
